Pop of Paradise Page

The Pop of Paradise Stamp Set is a great set for card making but it is AWESOME for scrapbooking!!! It's perfect for documenting all your tropical trips, zoo visits and etc. In 2013 my mom and I visited Las Vegas before heading to the Stampin' Up! Convention. There is so much to do in Las Vegas that you can never visit it all in one trip; it's really amazing all the stuff to do and see. One of my favorite places to go is the Flamingo Lagoon. I never tire looking at these birds in person.

Rubber Redneck Quick Shots:

  • Ink the pineapple from Pop of Paradise Stamp Set in Melon Mambo. Stamp onto the Whisper White page base in the top left corner.
  • Cut a piece of Always Artichoke card stock and stamp the leaves in Always Artichoke creating a tone on tone look.
  • Add some different patterns of Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper and Gold Foil Sheet.
  • Place you pictures onto the base page.
  • Wrap some Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine and Basic Black Baker's Twine around the layers.
  • To create my journal area I just cut another piece of Whisper White card stock and wrote the details on it. It's important to add the date to your pages too the Project Life Journal Pen works great for writing you story and notes on you layouts!!

Handmade Embellishment

Handmade Embellishments:

  • I stamped the large leaf from Pop of Paradise Stamp Set in VersaMark onto Whisper White card stock. Poured Gold Embossing Powder over the image. Tapped off the excess and heat set with the Heat Tool. I cut out the leaves by hand.
  • The other leaf was stamped in Always Artichoke and stamp onto Whisper White card stock then cut out by hand.
  • Ink the flamingo in Melon Mambo and stamp onto Whisper White card stock. Cut out the flamingo's.
  • Layer together with a bit of Gold Metallic Thread behind and you've created custom handmade embellishments!
  • Ink the "words" in VersaMark and pour Gold Embossing Powder over the images. Tap off excess powder and heat set with the Heat Tool. Zip the Whisper White and Basic Black card stock through the Big Shot with the Tags & Labels Framelits die cutting out the card stock and creating a tag.
  • Finish off the page by adding some Metallic Enamel Shapes and Regal Enamel Shapes.

Supplies Used:
Stamp: Pop of Paradise
Ink: Melon Mambo, Always Artichoke, VersaMark
Paper: Whisper White, Always Artichoke, Basic Black, Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper, Gold Foil Sheet
Acc.: Big Shot, Tags & Labels Framelits, Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine, Basic Black Baker's Twine, Gold Metallic Thread, Regals Enamel Shapes, Metallic Enamel Shapes, Gold Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Project Life Journal Pen, Pop of Pink Designer Washi Tape

I will be sharing Day 21-22 this was REALLY crunch days for us if I was going to get all gifts done to mail in time. lol Lots of gifts left to be made and wrapping. Oh my the wrapping!

Day 21:Spent the morning going over my check list for what gifts were left to do. Then worked all morning finishing up those gifts. We hauled everything out of the craft room out to the dinning room to layout and start wrapping and packaging. The funny part I just got the club hostess gifts all wrapped and my mother showed up. We didn't know she was coming over and she is in one of my hostess clubs. So mom you almost blew the surprise. (There were many close calls this year for people seeing gifts.) Haha Dh and I got a pretty good laugh out of it.

IMG_6150

As we got things done they got checked off so I included that in my layout on this page. I used all the items from Project Life Hello December 2015 Bundle. Our family tradition is to create some of our gifts since I love to create and handmade gifts to me mean a lot more. (Some times this stress dh out and he thinks I am CRAZY).

IMG_6152

Every year our tradition is to make something special for our nieces, nephews and cousin's kids. I had a great Aunt who always did special things for us kids and it is one of my fondest memories of what cool thing did she make up. I want to pass that on to our peeps. We are the favorite ;) This year I wanted to make stockings; so on Dec. 21 at 4pm at night what are we doing cutting stockings out for the kids. We had about 30 to make too. ROFL

This layout I just added pictures then decorated one picture with the Project Life Hello December 2015 Accessories Pack. Pretty simple. My husband dose think I am crazy but he always helps. lol So he got the best husband award this year.

IMG_6157

Here is one batch of stockings cut out waiting to be pinned and sewed together. Gonna be so cute right? Another VERY late night. My top card I decorated using the accessories from Project Life Hello December 2015. I used the stamp from Project Life Hello December 2015 Stamp Set; inked it in Lost Lagoon and stamped on the bottom right corner. I took the stamps from Holly Jolly Greetings Stamp Set; inked them in Real Red, and Basic Gray and stamped randomly onto the card.

Day 22: (BAD DAY HERE.) Up at 5am; only time for a little coffee. Oh elves where are my Christmas Photo Cards??? Lost somewhere over Michigan. EEKKKKK We spent a good part of the day trying to sew the stockings. One after another major mistakes were made; from sewing them wrong side out, to missing the edges and etc.  Only 1 turned out; seriously not kidding. So they were a huge BUST but boy was that interesting lol (note to self: when doing this large of project make sure you have plenty of sleep the night before and drink LOTS of coffee). Dh got the tree up finally!! Never been so late in my life with anything. lol I'll be honest at this point we ready to say to heck with no tree or decorations; but we were hosting Christmas this year and we didn't want to disappoint the kids. The things you do for the kids to make the day special!!!

IMG_6164

I thought it was important to document the one stocking and getting the tree up finally just because of the humor of the situation. I kept this simple too. I just used the Project Life Hello December 2015 Bundle.

Tick Tock Tick Tock now what do we do for the kids??? 2 Days before Christmas. EEKK Gonna have to sleep on it.

The Story behind the Recipe Albums :)

My mom for the last 2 years has been hand writing out my grandma's recipes for all of us off and on. Which was fantastic she wanted to do that for us but Eeeegads there is LOTS and I mean LOTS of recipes and times it by 5 umm it would have took her 10 years to get that done!! lol So I suggested how about typing them up and putting them into a 3 ring binder and then on the cover we could dig out pictures of my grandma with each one of us to put on the cover. Brilliant idea and genius!! ahem until we discovered there where no pictures of my grandma just with each child. Ton of grandpa and each one of us but none of grandma. I was disappointed at this and a little sad because it's too late to fix that. (Here is my plug make sure you take pictures of each grandparent or you with your kids individually you just never know when you or them might want that picture some day). So back to the drawing board.

They also need to not be to expensive since 5 of these were being made. So while my mom and I were in our favorite craft store somebody had made a memory keepsake recipe album and it was awesome!! We both saw it right away and thought oh yeah!! Problem solved we'll just make this little album of a few pictures and recipe's of grandma and then type up all the recipes and put them into a 3 ring binder...... (so I thought)!!!! Little did I know what we were getting into. lol

Here are some pictures of the album. Just  a few of the pages to give you an idea.

IMG_5129

I love just about all products on the market out there. We were going to make the albums out of the 6 x 8 SU Albums but the craft store had Simply Stories Albums and page protectors half off. They were only $9, more in my mom's price range for how many to be made. I thought that should be ok since that company is a pretty good company of products. We used stuff from my stash to create them, then I would be using stuff up (my goal for last year) and it would save some money for her.

We decorated the cover with a line from Carta Bella called Homemade with Love. I had picked a bunch of this up on clearance to use in my scrapbook albums with pictures of my grandma. She loved to bake and cook and this collection was so her. We used the Retired Stampin' Up! Stamp Set Perfectly Preserved and Cannery Framelits. One jar was inked in Pool Party; stamped onto Pool Party card stock and zipped through the Big Shot. The top was die cut out and Linen Thread wrapped around and a Regals Designer Button (Cherry Cobbler) added. The other canister is from a stamp set that matched this line of designer paper. I inked it in retired Gumball Green Ink and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock. I then poured clear embossing powder over the image and heat set it. The Little Letters Thinlits item #133730 (pg. 172) in the main Stampin' Up! catalog. These little framelits are perfect for titles!! I just LOVE them! We die cut out the titles in Early Espresso card stock. Top right corner we added some Subtle Candy Dots.

IMG_5752

This was the cover page and the start to the recipe album. It's a picture of my grandma when she was young. It's one of my favorite "old" pictures of my grandma. I used the retired Large Delicate Doilies Sizzlit to die cut out a piece of So Saffron card stock. My grandma crocheted beautiful doilies so I wanted to incorporate that into it.

IMG_5755

We did sections of different categories Appetizers, Breads, Main Dishes, Cakes, Cookies, and Pies. We did these with the special recipes that meant something to each person or had a special story behind them. Each category was made from chipboard; covered in card stock. The labels I made with my label maker and put on some Kraft card stock.

IMG_5760

This is were we started running into problems. We discovered none of the pockets were exactly the same size. What a nightmare each pocket had to be measured before we cut anything. I CRUMBA this is what you get for not staying with a brand name that you KNOW well. Lesson learned. lol It wouldn't have been a big deal but 5 of them times 10 different page pockets front and back...well you can get an idea what a nightmare that was for us. We started this in February of 2014. Yes you read that right....they were supposed to be done by February 21, 2014 for our big Christmas weekend.

IMG_5764

To help with the hole pocket problem I ended up creating cardboard inserts decorated where we could just add the recipe to it. My husband the computer genius he is helped me create a recipe card in Photoshop and then I just printed out onto card stock that I had from my stash. It worked AWESOME and saved a lot of time! The albums came with wood inserts so I traced each one onto vanilla card stock. Hand cut them out and stamped on them using Cherry Cobbler, Pool Party and Gumball Green ink. Then to make the edges nicer looking, we sponged Early Espresso Ink around the edges. I thought doing this was brilliant...ummm yeah right we ran out of stuff fast (how that is even possible with all the stuff I own is beyond me lol) which resulted on a trip out of town asap so we could get them done by February 21. Well peeps we didn't get them done in time last year.

IMG_5768

We continued to work on them off and on. Another group of recipes. My mom hand wrote out the recipes to make them more personal. My husband thought that looked cool because it looked like old lady hand writing. Seriously my husband did say that; we got a pretty good giggle out of that.

IMG_5770

Another group of recipes and a picture of my grandma. They are finally done!! December 18, 2015!! Hooray for us!!! :) We had about 40 hours into these and that was 3 of us working on them.

IMG_1416

I didn't get great pictures but here is one of just my one cousin (my mom's niece) and my brother opening there albums. They loved them! So worth everything we went through because they turned out awesome and now we all have a beautiful keepsake of my grandma!

I still am working on typing all those recipes up and wowzier is there a LOT!! Maybe they will be done in another 2 years. ROFL

Some Tips:

* If you want to try a project this size make sure you plan out what you want to do.
* Check to see if you will have enough supplies on hand if you want to make them all the same; which I do recommend with a project this size.
*Allow time for any unexpected problems this will help you keep your sanity!
*Most of all go wit a company you know won't have such inconsistency or at least before starting check them out very well. I can honestly say I will never do that again without being 100 percent sure they are all the same. (We're thinking about doing something of my grandpa too).

If you made it to the bottom of this thank you for joining me on the recipe book journey :) I hope it inspired you to create a beautiful keepsake!

I am only showing Day 18 since it was the day we got the recipe books done for my brother, cousins, my mom and I finally!!!

Day 18: We spent the entire day working on the Recipe Albums for the family.

IMG_5562

I decided to switch up the number's for the day a little bit. I just cut one of the banners in half that came in the Hello December 2015 Accessory Pack and wrote 18 on it. I added some stamping across the top and accessories from the kit. I took the stamp from Holly Jolly Greetings Stamp Set and inked it in Lost Lagoon and stamped in the bottom right corner. Then added my journaling to the card.  So easy to do!!! Here my mom and I are working away.

IMG_5564

In the one picture you'll see my dog Gizmo and my kitty Kyro sleeping. They both have to be right by me no matter what I am doing. lol The picture was an odd size so I made it to fit and left part of the photo paper white. To fill in the white space I used the stickers from the Hello December Accessory Kit to spell out nap. The bottom picture is of my mom with her completed recipe album.

IMG_5568

Since the page continued on I decided to add the Day 18 card again. I wanted to show the recipe album by itself too. I add in my grandma's recipe for No Bake cookies. These are my favorite cookies on the planet. She use to make them for me all the time :) Then that day we also got a Christmas card from my Aunt and Uncle from Michigan and my aunt wrote some messages on the outside of the envelope to us!! Made us smile and laugh so I wanted to include that in the our album.

I will be sharing the Recipe Album in second blog post HERE.

I am only covering a couple days; I wanted to really show off what I did for one of the days so there our several pictures for it.

Day 15: I spent the day working on the Christmas Gifts that I was making along with December Hostess Club Project.

IMG_5542

I also discovered these cookies from Pepridge Farms and oh my peeps they are AWESOME cookies. They were gingerbread cookies that I got from Target.....yes we did pick up more :) So much for cutting the sugar out! lol The Christmas Ornaments were my 6/$25 Hostess Club Project for December. I made over 30 of these babies. So there was roughly 60 Gold Glimmer ornaments to poke the holes out of......I didn't quite think that one out. lol I used the different buttons from Home for Christmas Designer Buttons. They were cool and everyone loved them! Tomorrow I will be sharing the video and pictures.

Dec. 16: I got to open my Christmas Gift from Hubby!!! But wait it's not Christmas yet............

IMG_5544

For the day 16 page I added a Tag from the Oh What Fun Project Kit. I used the Holly Jolly Greetings Stamp Set. You can still order this set it carried over to the Occasions Catalog!! I stamped the image onto the tag and added it into the album.

IMG_5547

I used the back of the tag to add my story details. I got a Laser Printer!!! Whoop Whoop. I print a LOT of stuff for our businesses so I go through a ton of ink and I also picked up a Heidi Swap 6" minic in November for 1/2 off!! (With her machine if you print images out with a Laser Printer then you can add the foil to it but you need a Laser Printer.) So it's been on my wish list for awhile. For my birthday my family got me a Canon Selphy so dh was going to get me paper and ink for it. When his brother and him went to Best Buy on the end cap was this printer half off. WOW these things are spendy so that couldn't be passed up. lol

IMG_5550

There is a pretty funny story about this hole early gift opening. So I cut a Project Life card in half to create a pull out for behind the picture. That coming weekend we were going to work on those dread cookbooks for my brother and cousin's again and was talking about it with Dh. All the sudden he wanted me to open my gift. I of course didn't want to since it wasn't Christmas yet. lol Finally he talked me into it.....um yeah I was glad he did. lol It was used a LOT. The funny part later that day I was talking to my brother telling him about getting the printer. My brother thought it was odd I got two printers and I almost told him why dh wanted me to open my gift so I could use it on the cookbooks that coming weekend. I almost spilled the beans without thinking about it!!! ROFL Phew close call. Mom and I had a pretty good giggle over that one.

Dec. 17:  Another busy day for us we got Snow!!!!!

IMG_5555

More Christmas cards arrived!! Love getting photo cards especially if I haven't seen kids in awhile. We plowed and shoveled. Later dh had a meeting with a client about there new website. I worked on trying to figure out what to have for Christmas Lunch so tired of Ham and Turkey at this point. lol What do you make for a big group of people????

IMG_5558

Another SU customer order arrived; some heavy petting involved :) Gizmo wanted to go outside and play in the fresh snow. When he came back in he had snow on his nose. He likes to bury his head into the snow. Then he just sat like he was posing for a picture and didn't move; so we took a picture. lol Never seen a dog that poses for pictures like he does. Goofy Dog!!!
